Try using the wrl importer in 2.49

just install it in the scripts folder and try importing it again

It seems that Blender have changed the import scripts in 2.6

EDIT:

Redownload the Banjo Kazooie zip from the site I have included a blend file of banjo if it works I will update all models.

I have updated all models with blend files and wrl files seems like the new version of blender has changed the way it imports, so the blend files should work for anyone.
