Charlie Sheen has reached out to the producers of “American Idol” to insist he is “genuinely interested” in taking up a spot on the judging panel.

TV bosses are currently looking for a new lineup following the departure of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler – and Sheen was recently mentioned by producer Nigel Lythgoe as a possible replacement.

Sheen admits he is intrigued by the idea and is urging “Idol” executives to get in touch.

In a radio interview with “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday, Sheen said, “It kind of came out of nowhere and I responded with a quote, just to sort of check the temperature of it or test the waters. Haven’t heard anything back. I guess it got some people curious…

“It seems so out of the blue that it almost made perfect sense. I thought this could be a lot of fun. … Seriously, tell him (Lythgoe) I’m genuinely interested. It’s so different, it could be radical

So uh.... yeah. Would he wear a bowling shirt and cargo shorts while sitting at the panel?

Even Paula for that matter. What made the show fun was that there was the tough guy, the nice and wacky woman, and the 'in between' guy.

The way I see it, every TV show has something or someone that you associate it with. In other words, when you think of a certain show, you think of that particular person or thing.

When you think American Idol, the first thing that most likely comes to your head is Simon, Paula, and Randy. It's hard to associate the show to those three the past two-three years because of the constant judge changes.

Not always. There have been many people that have used the show to launch pretty good careers. It's been just getting 'punchy' if you will, throughout the past through years, and is beginning to show its age. It's kind of sad really, because American Idol is what defined the way reality talent competitions are run this day in age.

Dutch Idol ended after its 4th season. X Factor proved more popular. Nowadays there's only The Voice, XFactor and Got Talent anymore, in order of their popularity from most to least popular.

It's true, the Idol franchise is fading away. Canadian Idol ended after six seasons (in 2009). At least we got Jacob Hoggard (Hedley) and Carly Rae Jepsen out of it.

I would love that. Mariah Carey has just been confirmed as a judge, so imagine the two of them together on the same panel.
